   Matagorda County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office hosted over 30 attendees for the “Gulf Coast Prescribed Burning Informational Meeting” recently.  County Extension Agent Greg Baker mentioned possibly putting together a burn association for Matagorda County.

Presidents’ Day closings

   Observance of Presidents’ Day falls on Monday, Feb. 17 this year.  All federal offices will be closed in observance of the holiday, including banking institutions and the United States Postal Service.  County and city offices will be closed in observance as well.

Crews fight Blessing house fire for 5 hours

   Five fire departments and the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department responded to a house fire at 346 Private Road 821, Bay City, near Blessing, at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4.  The units answering the call were the Blessing, Midfield, Palacios, Markham and Bay City volunteer fire departments.

Juvenile in custody for drive-by shooting in Baywood subdivision

   Bay City police officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Baywood Drive area after multiple gunshots were reported at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2.  Dispatch received several calls of multiple shots in the area and officers were able to locate a video of the suspect vehicle.

Woman arrested after tractor stolen at gunpoint

   Bay City Police Officer Glen Davis saw an orange tractor driving in the 2900 Block of FM 3156 in Bay City around 2 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2.   Davis had reason to believe the tractor may have been stolen, reports show.
