"Tourism board undergoes onboarding" by: Jessica Shepard

   Communication & Cultural Arts Director Samantha Denbow led the Tourism Advisory Council board through its first regular 2026 meeting Monday afternoon.  Denbow had each board member provide their own introductions to their fellow members.

City, ISD races draw attention for May 2 vote

   With the primaries over, the next elections on horizon are five municipal, school board and Caney Creek MUD elections Saturday, May 2.  County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz has election contract with all five entities.Bay City City Council positions 1 and 2 are up for election Saturday, May 2.

   Port of Bay City Authority commissioners heard a variety of project updates during their monthly meeting last week.  Commissioner Matt Ashcraft was the only absence.

   Matagorda County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a resolution in honor on naming a portion of Texas 35 the “Congressman Greg Laughlin Highway” at the court’s regular meeting Monday morning.

   Parks and Recreation Manager Kelly Penewitt led her board through its first meeting of 2026.  Members present include Jordan Piwonka, Denise Fortenberry, Chad Hartman, and Arnulfo Hinojosa, and those absent were Mike Griffith and Israel Ochoa.
