"County OKs nuisance abatement" by: Mike Reddell

   Commissioners Court approved a five-year service agreement with Vibrance Health and the Matagorda County Neighborhood Nuisance Abatement procedures at the court’s meeting Monday, Dec. 22.  County Judge Bobby Seiferman and Precinct 3 Commissioner Troy Shimek were absent.

LCRA explains withdrawal from Arbuckle for Matagorda Bay

   The state-approved Water Management Plan requires LCRA to release water under certain circumstances to help maintain environmental flows in the Colorado River below Austin and into Matagorda Bay.  The requirements change based on the overall basin conditions on March 1, July 1 and Nov. 1.

Closings announced for 2026 New Year’s

   This year, New Year’s Eve falls on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and New Year’s Day is Thursday, Jan. 1.  The U.S. Postal Service, banks, and other federal offices will only be closed on Thursday.  Regular federal offices, banks and Post Office hours and mail delivery will resume on Friday, Jan. 2.

Corps, County, Port, GLO award major river dredging

   A major federal contract award has been announced for Navigation and Coastal Protection that will dredge the mouth of the Colorado River and deliver sand from that dredging to Sargent Beach for its breakwater project.   Matagorda County, in partnership with the U.S.

"City passes CO for water improvements" by: Mike Reddell

   City Council approved certificates of obligation (CO) as part of funding improvements to the city's water system at council's special called meeting Dec. 16.  City Manager Scotty Jones said the CO issue was the last of the series of COs for the water and sewer system improvements.

"EAC Christmas luncheon serves 170 seniors" by: Mike Reddell

   Economic Action Committee of the Gulf Coast's annual Christmas Senior Citizens Luncheon served approximately 170 people Dec. 17 at the VFW Post 2438.  "We've been doing this for 20 years," EAC Director Kristie Pustejovsky, pointing out the meal is for any senior citizen over 60 years old.
