TPWD closed oyster season in Matagorda Bay Dec. 22

  The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is closing TX-4 in Galveston Bay and TX-20 in Matagorda Bay to commercial and recreational oyster harvest.   TX-4 in Galveston Bay will be closed beginning 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, and TX-20 in Matagorda Bay will be closed beginning 12:01 a.m.

Officer enters wrecked auto to save woman

   A Bay City police officer entered a wrecked vehicle to keep a trapped 72-year-old woman from choking until EMS arrived.  When officers arrived at a head-on crash 100 block of Avenue F North at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, they saw a pickup rollover with the 72-year-old female trapped inside.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges

   A 50-year-old Bay City man was arrested on drug-related charges after police made a traffic stop on his vehicle for failure to dim headlights.  Police say it is illegal to drive with your bright lights on within a 100 feet or so against oncoming traffic and unsafe for other drivers.

S&P ups city’s bond rating to AA-

   S&P Global Ratings has raised the city’s long-term rating and underlying rating (SPUR) to an AA- from an A+ rating City Manager Scotty Jones recently announced.  The city has also been removed from under criteria observation, she noted.

Police briefs

21 year-old stabbed; goes to hospital ER  A 21-year-old man with possible stab wounds went to Matagorda Regional Medical Center Emergency Room at around 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, police reports show.  The man told police that he was walking to a friend’s house to help him out at around 5:30 a.m.

Vacant trailer fire under investigation; damage estimate 15K

   Bay City Police Department, Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, and Bay City Fire Marshal Dan Shook were dispatched to a trailer home fire at 3020 1st St, Bay City. at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec.11.
