Highly pathogenic avian influenza causes mortality events in Texas birds

    The National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in multiple locations throughout the state.

   Unofficially, Matagorda County has 229 bird species reported for the 125th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count – also known as the Matagorda County Mad Island Marsh Christmas Bird Count (CBC) on Monday night, Dec.16.

   County Commissioners unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the future aquatic center during their meeting Monday morning.   All commissioners were present for the meeting.

Christmas Closings

   This year Christmas Eve falls on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day is Wednesday, Dec. 25.  That means that many local businesses are closed in observance of the holiday starting Monday, Dec. 23, and will re-open at regular business hours Thursday, Dec. 26.  The U.S.
