"Commissioners Court proposes a lower tax rate" By: Mike Reddell

   County Judge Bobby Seiferman read a statement Monday morning that the proposed Matagorda County fiscal 2025 budget would raise more money from property taxes than last year.  At Commissioners Court regular meeting, the judge said that amount would be $2,225,376, a 9.

   City Council authorized, on second reading, the Bay City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) to enter into a contract with BC Development Group for a seven-year term.  The action was taken at council’s regular meeting Sept. 10.

Ashley store opening set for Sept. 26

   Stimson & Sons will celebrate its newest Ashley store opening in Bay City.  The new retail store will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting of its 25,000-square-foot showroom at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 3510 7th Street.

Robber steals bag of cash from Ai United Insurance

   A robber grabbed a bank bag full of cash from an Ai United Insurance employee at 10:13 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, Bay City police reported.     Officers were sent to the insurance firm at 2515 7th Street, in reference to a theft.

4-H Year begins

   The 2024-2025 4-H year officially kicks off September 1!Matagorda County 4-H of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is excited to welcome new and returning members to another year of 4-H programming and opportunity.  4-H is a club for youth ages 8 to 18 in grades 3-12.

"Tourism Council OKs $3K for Rice Festival " by: Jessica Shepard

   Bay City’s Tourism Advisory Council (TAC) unanimously approved a sponsorship application for the 78th Annual Bay City Lions Club Rice Festival event at a special meeting Monday afternoon.  The council approved up to $3,000 for the event while the application requested $20,000.
