"Final plat of Valor Park gets approval" by: Mike Reddell

   The final plat of Valor Park was approved by the Planning Commission at its regular meeting Thursday, June 11.  The 47.351-acre Section 2 will add 182 units to the 30 units already completed – for a total of 212 units - east of Avenue M and north of 16th Street.

"County begins long recovery from hurricane" by: Mike Reddell

   Recovery from Hurricane Beryl’s punishing winds and tidal surges last week is underway in Matagorda County.     Beryl brought 90 mph winds – wind gusts up to 125 mph were reported by Bay City police - and a tidal surge when it struck Matagorda about 4 a.m. Monday, July 8.

   The “10th Annual Blessing Hotel Car Show” fundraising event kicks off with registration at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the hotel, 128 North 10th St.  Car owners can register for over 20 different classes and several other special awards while judging begins at from noon to 2 p.m.

   While Hurricane Beryl bore down on Matagorda County last week, members of the Blessing Historical Foundation were preparing to have roofing and window specialists view damages incurred by June’s derecho storm.

   It may only be the second week of July, but Tinnin’s Christmas Village owners Trent and Tammi Tinnin are already planning for this December.   The village is located at the Tinnin’s home at 2504 Avenue K in Bay City and usually opens from 6-10 p.m.
