"New World Screwworm dominates Cattlemen’s event" by: Jessica Shepard

   Information on the New World Screwworm (NWS) dominated the Gulf Coast regional Cattlemen’s Workshop & Trade Show last week.  Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) Executive Director and Texas State Veterinarian Dr. Lewis Dinges explained the resurgence of NWS on Friday, Jan. 23.

   Dredging is finished at the Matagorda Harbor project and Port of Bay City Authority Commissioners were told at their meeting Jan. 14.  Now the Port Authority is awaiting word from the Corps of Engineers.  Anchor QEA’s Coastal Engineer Ian Fisher said the dredging was complete Jan.

   The 2026 election calendar is fast approaching for Texas and Matagorda County toward the March 3 primary.  Monday, Feb. 2 is the last day to register to vote in the joint primary election.  That’s quickly followed by Feb. 17, when early voting begins.  Feb.
