Bay City Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) Advisory Board members heard updates for the upcoming year from PARD Manager Kelly Penewitt during their meeting last week.  Board members Chard Hartman and Jordan Piwonka were the only ones present.

Matagorda County Commissioners Court members got two different government vantage points from people addressing them in the court’s public comments section Monday, Aug. 31.  Donna Howard and Donna Huitt both presented arguments about how the county government leads this county.

The deadline for the Rice Festival Queen’s Pageant entries will be Wednesday, Sept. 23.  The application information can be found on the Lions Club of Bay City TX Facebook page, high school counselors, or by contacting Rice Queen Pageant Director Ryan Ricks directly at 979-245-4261 or 801-800-7214.

Labor Day celebrations and closures fall on Sept. 7

All federal, county, and city offices will be closed for Labor Day and reopen at regular business hours Tuesday, Sept.8.  The U.S. Postal Service and banking institutions will also be closed Monday.  Bay City, Van Vleck, and Tidehaven ISDs all will be closed in observance of the holiday.
