"City approves $16.9M for public safety center cost" by: Mike Reddell

   City Council approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $16,910,709 for construction of the City of Bay City Public Safety Center at council’s regular meeting last week.

Matagorda County school districts back in session

   School districts countywide resume classes starting early next week.  Some districts have events connecting students and guardians with teachers and district staff starting Thursday, Aug. 6.    Van Vleck ISD campuses open Monday, Aug. 10.  “Meet the Staff Night” is scheduled for Thursday, Aug.

   The Matagorda County Commissioners Court accepted the 2025 Distinguished Service Award for the Matagorda County Historical Commission (MCHC) at the court’s regular meeting July 27.

   Bay City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) board members unanimously approved a $500 Continuing Education (CE) grant application from The Face Bar by Madeline at its meeting last week.  All members were present for the meeting.

Police make arrest following armed standoff

   A 20-year-old Bay City surrendered to Bay City Police after a standoff – stemming from a domestic disturbance call – at a Palm Villege apartment Tuesday morning, July 21, police reports show.
