"Bay City loses area playoff to Kilgore; Jones salutes seniors" by: Mike Reddell

   The Bay City Blackcats ended their 2023 season with an area playoff round loss to the Kilgore Bulldogs 37-28 at Sheldon ISD Stadium Friday, Nov. 17.    The game capped the Blackcats’ 8-4, 4-2 record this year – a second-place finish in District 12-4A-1 and another trip to the playoffs.

Officer’s car rear ended by drunk driver    Policeman Tim Helton patrol car was rear ended in the 4900 Block of Avenue F Sunday, Nov. 12, shortly after 4 a.m.    Helton was on patrol when he notified dispatch that his unit was struck by another vehicle.

Thanksgiving closings

   Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, Nov. 23, this year.    Federal offices, including banks and the United States Postal Service, will be closed that day.    Normal federal operating hours resume Friday, Nov. 24.    All county and city offices will be closed from Thursday-Friday, Nov.

   Matagorda County voters cast ballots for the two incumbents on the Port of Bay City Authority board and approved Van Vleck’s tax payments election in the Nov. 7 election.    In addition, the county followed statewide trends in approving all but one of the constitutional amendments on the ballot.

   Port of Bay City Authority commissioners unanimously approved $5,000 towards upgrading the pager system for countywide volunteer fire departments at their meeting last week.    All commissioners were present for the Nov. 6 meeting.
