   “Maintain No Gain” is a free 6-week program that will serve as a guide to control holiday weight gain and encourage a healthy lifestyle that will help individuals decrease their risk factors for cardiovascular disease and stroke.

"Leopards outlast Raiders in shootout" By John Hoffman

   Altair  –  There are always games that you think how the outcome will be and then it turns out an entirely different way.    Last Friday night, Van Vleck went into Raider stadium with the hopes of dominating, but it took a late Leopard touchdown to escape with a hard fought 42-35 win.

   The Tigers  traveled to El Campo and won by the score of 15-0.      Scoring for the Tigers were:      RB Caiden Glaze 6 yd td run, RB Mathew Riddick scored on a 15 yard td catch from Glaze.      Glaze also ran in a 2 pt try and OL/K Angel Lara made an extra point.

MC Democratic Party elects Dearing as chair

   The Matagorda County Democratic Party Executive Committee has elected Nora Dearing as their new chair.     Dearing did a prior stint as MCDP Chair from 2012-2016 and is stepping in to fill the unexpired term of Stephen Logan, who resigned due to personal reasons.

"Rice Festival Royalty crowned" by: Jessica Shepard

   Twenty-three local high school seniors took to Bay City High School’s auditorium stage last Saturday to find out who would be crowned as the 2023-2024 Bay City Lions Club Rice Festival Queen.    Van Vleck High School senior Hope Cornett was crowned Rice Festival Queen on Oct. 14.

Rice Festival begins Oct. 19

   The 77th Annual Bay City Lions Club Rice Festival opens from 5-11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds.    Gate entry is $10 per person all day.     This year’s carnival is provided by Kenny’s Funland Carnival.
