"Heavy rains force Crop Tour indoors" by: Jessica Shepard

   Heavy rains forced this year’s annual crop tour indoors at the newly built Blessing Community Center last week.  County Extension Agent Greg Baker said that the event’s previous meeting spot – El Maton National Hall’s parking lot was flooded June 12.

Undetermined fire destroyed Tyree AME Church

   Fire of undetermined cause destroyed the Tyree AME Church, 2517 Ave B, Friday, June 13, Fire Marshal Dan Shook said.  The Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, the Bay City Police Department, and Shook were sent to the fire at about 12:13 a.m.

Estlinbaum advances in Texas A&M Leadership Academy

   Matagorda County Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum successfully completed his first of four sessions in the Commissioners Court Leadership Academy.   CCLA is a rigorous two-year program hosted by the V.G. Young Institute of County Government which is part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

H-GAC releases evacuation zone maps

    The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), the regional agency responsible for publishing official evacuation zones and routes for the 13-county Houston-Galveston area, is urging residents to get and stay prepared as the 2025 hurricane season is forecasted to be more active than usual.
