Texas shows continued economic, population growth

    The Comptroller’s data analysts recently updated our regional reports, showing a continued trend of strong economic and population growth. Some of these data surprised us, while other results confirmed what we’ve been hearing. Here are the top 10 stats that stood out to our researchers:  1.

Van Vleck ISD announces 2 top administrators

   Van Vleck ISD recently announced that Matt Steiner was recently approved to be named VVISD Assistant Superintendent and Shannon Garcia will be the new Van Vleck High School Principal.   Steiner obtained his Superintendent’s certification earlier this year.

   Climate scientists say that extreme rain and drought are likely to become more common due to climate change. July 1  Texas is no stranger to extreme weather, but it’s been a year. Massive wildfires, intense thunderstorms, widespread flooding, tornadoes and a tropical storm have swept the state.

Corps orders county officials to close Revetment Road

   Matagorda County officials have been instructed to immediately close West Revetment Road by the United States Corp of Engineers.   This road is along the revetment wall and is west of FM 457, in Sargent.  An inspection of the road was recently completed because of Tropical Storm Alberto.

4 LyondellBasell facilities recognized with safety awards

   LyondellBasell is proud to announce four of its U.S. manufacturing facilities have been awarded some of the highest safety awards in the industry during the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) 2023 Annual Safety Awards event held last month.

City to monitor GFL brush pickup concerns

   The brush pick up issue was a topic of discussion with GFL and Council at last week’s meeting.   The City staff will be monitoring this concern, said Interim City Manager Scotty Jones.
