Ganado man dies in wreck near Markham

A 23-year-old Ganado man was killed in a two-car collision at the intersection of Texas 35 and FM 1468 at Markham early Monday morning, Jan. 22, DPS Sgt. Stephen Woodard said.

January sales tax rebates for Bay City and Palacios are both up from the same month last year.    Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for January, 3.3 percent more than in January 2023.

Port of Bay City Authority board of commissioners approved a lease agreement with Shaun and Courtney Kulcak for the bait shop at Matagorda Harbor at the board’s regular meeting Jan. 11.

7th Street road closure set for Jan. 31-Feb. 2

The city of Bay City has an update on a future road closure.     This closure is planned for the railway crossing on Texas 35, between Ave H and Ave K (the crossing closest to McDonalds).    The dates for the closure are Wednesday, Jan. 31, Thursday, Feb. 1, and Friday, Feb. 2.

City and City Manager part ways amicably

The City of Bay City and City Manager have reached a mutual agreement to separate her employment with the City under the terms of her Employment Contract.  The City’s decision to separate with the City Manager is simply a desire to go in a different direction.

At press time Tuesday morning, schools, municipalities and Matagorda County offices are closed due to winter weather.    Those closings come with a “Hard Freeze” warning until 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17.
