"Van Vleck will graduate 85" by: Jessica Shepard

   A total of 85 seniors will graduate from Van Vleck High School starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Burl McKinney Stadium.    The stadium is predicted to be packed with graduates’ friends, family members, and peers.    Overall, the seniors earned an estimated $236,750 in scholarship funds.

   Tidehaven High School graduated 60 students during its commencement ceremony at Delvin Taska Stadium, Friday, May 19.    Following the graduate student processional, Karleigh Cheek led the invocation.

   Bay City ISD hosted its annual ‘Employee Appreciation Banquet’ last week honoring educators and staff across the district.    This year’s theme was “We’re Lucky to Have You” and featured a casino motif – including a few game tables for teachers to try their luck and win prizes.

   The 2023 hurricane season is forecast to be less active than previous years.    Our weather service experts say, it only takes one hurricane, the one hurricane that might hit our region to put us in danger.

   Van Vleck ISD trustees unanimously chose to hire Christie Dement as the new Superintendent of Schools during their regular meeting Monday night.    All board members were present for the meeting.    Dement was named as the lone finalist for superintendent at the board’s April meeting.

"County OKs revised subdivision rules" by: Mike Reddell

   Commissioners Court approved a revised Matagorda County subdivision policy and accepted eight petitions for abandoning rights of way in Matagorda, at the court’s meeting May 15.    There was little discussion on the revised subdivision policy approval that followed a brief public hearing.
