Turnout low in May 2 elections

   A total of 1,034 voters cast ballots in those election out of 15,346 registered voters.  The joint elections for Bay City and Palacios city and school races plus Caney Creek MUD Saturday, May 2, drew a quite low turnout.   Bay City ISD  Incumbent trustee Place 4 Priscilla Robinson was unopposed.

   Matagorda County Commissioners Court approved a funding agreement with Matagorda Historical Society at the court’s regular meeting Monday, April 27.  The agreement calls for the county to provide $20,000 in funding to MHS in fiscal 2026.

   Matagorda County has the most federal opportunity zones in the state and that could provide tax breaks for businesses, Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) Executive Director Mike Ferdinand told his board at its Friday meeting.
