City Council unanimously voted to adopt a no-new revenue tax rate of .56995 per $100 valuation for fiscal 2023-24 at council’s regular meeting Aug. 22.    There was considerable discussion on setting the tax rate.

With less than 80 days until Relay for Life Matagorda County returns to the Matagorda County Fairgrounds this November – event coordinator Chrystal Folse is still looking for more teams.    “In the past, we’ve had at least 20 different teams,” she commented.

Unattended cooking blamed for house fire

Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, the Bay City Fire Marshal, and the Bay City Police Department were dispatched to a building fire at 1816 Bayou Dr, Bay City at about 5:26 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.      A local resident notified dispatch his house was on fire.
