Tidehaven jumped to a 2-0 record with a 58-0 thrashing of Odem at home last Friday, Sept. 1.    Both of the Tigers wins in this early 2023 season were from huge-margin shutouts over Goliad 30-0 Aug. 25 and Odem.

The Edna Cowboys overcame a 14-point Bay City lead to topple the Blackcats 28-21 in Edna Friday, Sept. 1.    The Blackcats surged to a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter only to yield 21 unanswered points to the Cowboys, who began their comeback with 25 seconds left in the third.

6 charged with migratory songbird trafficking

AUSTIN— This week, a federal grand jury returned indictments charging six Cuban nationals from Houston with illegal trafficking of migratory songbirds, violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Lacey Act.

After a brief closed session, Tidehaven ISD trustees unanimously approved their 2023-24 $0.82 total tax rate during their regular meeting Monday night.    Board members present included Stephen Crow, Marty Crain, Mike Galvan, Mike Pierce, Eric Kacer, and Cody Frick with trustee Stuart Lynn absent.

Labor Day closings

Labor Day celebrations and closures fall on Monday, Sept. 4 this year.    All federal, county, and city offices will be closed for Labor Day.    The United States Postal Service and banking institutions will also be closed Monday.
