Over 40 new teachers were recognized at the Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture’s 37th Annual New Teacher Breakfast, Aug. 11.    The bulk of the teachers presented represented Bay City and Van Vleck ISDs with a lone kindergarten and first grade teacher – Gloria Gonzales from Matagorda ISD.

Eight-year-old Owen Lyons was honored as a Junior Police Officer in a City Hall ceremony last week with the Chief of Police and the Mayor of Bay City.

Wadsworth man drowns in Selkirk

A 56-year-old Wadsworth man drowned in the Colorado River at Selkirk Island trying to move a barge around 5:15 p.m. Sunday Aug. 6, Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department reported. Deputies were sent to Selkirk on a possible drowning call.
