First responders find heavy smoke, flames at trailer house blaze

   First responding units to a fire at 1520 First St. identified heavy smoke and flame showing from the trailer at about 1:14 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, Fire Marshal Dan Shook said.    Responding were the Bay City Fire Department and Bay City Police Department.

   City Council heard Public Works Director Barry Calhoun discuss projects and updates during their regular meeting July 26.    “We’re seeing an increased volume of water main breaks due to drought conditions,” explained Calhoun.

New Hardeman Park restroom will serve adjacent parks, fields

  The restrooms at Hardeman Park were replaced with a new indoor restroom that was delivered on July 21.    The new restrooms replaces the antiquated cinder-block, open-air restrooms with a pre-cast concrete design with water fountains, stainless steel fixtures and interior/exterior security lights.

Main Street Program receives 2022 Main Street America accreditation

   Bay City Main Street Program has been designated as an Accredited Main Street America program for meeting rigorous performance standards.    “Historic downtowns are the heart and soul of communities,” said Bay City Main Street Program Board President Tami Savage.

BCPD, Brazoria County deputies break several catalytic converter theft cases

   Bay City Police Department took four reports of catalytic converter thefts on the evening of July 24.    Later that night, Deputy Mezzino of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) stopped a vehicle on Hwy 288 for a traffic violation.

BCPD search warrant nets meth arrest

   The Bay City PD Narcotics investigators found an estimated 194 grams of methamphetamines and 1.71 grams of crack cocaine after serving a search warrant in the 4700 block of Tarpon.    Timothy K. Warn, 59, of Bay City, was arrested, Bay City Police said, and he was booked in Matagorda County Jail.

Woman arrested for aggravated assault

   Bay City Police officers were sent to the 1400 block of Whitson in reference to disorderly conduct.    Prior to arrival, officers were told one of the callers reported hearing an argument and possible mention of a gun.
