Van Vleck students impressive in Bee in a Box classroom competition

   The Bee in a Box is a classroom competition, supported by Region 3 ESC and developed by Texas Law-Related Education (teaxaslre.org).    In that competition, 8th grade teachers can use as another way to access their students’ knowledge and understanding of key concepts in American history.

"New City Council takes shape" by: Mike Reddell

   Mayor Robert Nelson and three council members were sworn into new terms and outgoing councilman Jason Childers was recognized for his years of service at City Council’s regular meeting Tuesday, May 10.

"TIRZ board sees Cottonwood Creek plans" by: Mike Reddell

   Plans for green space along Cottonwood Creek near downtown were presented to the TIRZ 1 board last week.    Images and explanations for a possible “Cottonwood Creek Park” at the end of Avenue G were presented by landscape architect Tim May, with the civil engineering firm of EHRA.

"County approves 381 agreement with OQ" by: Mike Reddell

   Commissioners Court unanimously approved a Chapter 381 agreement with OQ Chemicals at the court’s regular meeting Monday, May 16.    The three-year (2024-2026) Chapter 381 agreement calls for paying the taxes up front then the county will pay out 50% tax rebates to OQ.

"BCCDC approves three new BR&E grants" by: Jessica Shepard

   Bay City Community Development Corporation board members unanimously approved three Business Retention & Expansion grants during their regular monthly meeting, Monday, May 16.    Grants were given to Brightest Blue, LLC, Robert Knox State Farm, and Too Much Scents.

"Pageant brings royalty to Van Vleck" by: Jessica Shepard

   Van Vleck has new royalty in town courtesy of the Van Vleck Pageant.    Out of 24 contestants Jordan Luna, Isabella Rhody, Caden Bakers, Ava Trevion, Zachariah Cadenas, and Leigha Melchor were crowned in their respective divisions.
