Fire calls made by county departments

Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:    On June 20, at 12:37 a.m., Bay City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire at the 3400 block of 4th Street.    On June 20, at 9:21 a.m., Bay City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire at the 600 block of Duncan.

   Matagorda County Commissioners Court approved a disaster declaration because of drought conditions but rejected language forbidding the use of fireworks at the court’s meeting Monday, June 27.

Fourth of July office closings

   Matagorda County courthouse offices will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.    Federal closings for Monday include the U.S. Postal Service and banks – both will reopen with normal business hours Tuesday, July 5.
