   Commissioners Court presented the Distinguished Service Award to the Matagorda County Historical Commission (MCHC) at the court’s regular meeting Monday, Jan. 24.    The award is for MCHC’s “dedication and hard work during the 2020 year of service.

   Bay City and Palacios received January sales tax allocations that were significantly higher than what the cities received for the same month last year.    State Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported he sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $992.

   The 14th Annual Chicken Fried Steak Dinner Crisis Center fundraiser starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bay City.    “We decided that it was time to bring this fundraiser back for our community,” said Crisis Center Executive Director Kelli Wright-Nelson.

   Commissioners unanimously approved setting a public hearing to possibly designate a reinvestment zone in an area of the county during a Zoom meeting, Monday, Jan. 17.    The public hearing would take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, in the courtroom.
