COVID-19 cases keep decreasing

   Matagorda County new confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to decline, following statewide trends.    The county has 108 new cases in the past 14 days for a per capita rate of 3 per 1,000 residents, according to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

A volunteer effort

Volunteers with Clean Harbors waste management company handled a variety of old paint and other hazardous chemicals for disposal as part of the annual Households Hazardous Waste cleanup project, Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds.

   Bay City fell to Brazosport 49-15 last Friday night, Oct. 8, but the Blackcats will need to rebound quickly with an away game against Columbia this Friday, Oct. 15.    Bay City (2-3, 0-1) will face a Columbia (4-1, 1-0) that dispatched Needville last week 56-35, in another District 12-4A-1 game.

Greg Baker named new county agent

   Greg Baker - a fifth generation cattle rancher in Matagorda County – is the new County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources for Matagorda County.    Baker replaces outgoing County Agent Aaron Sumrall, who earlier announced he is going into private business.
