   Matagorda County Commissioners Court awarded the construction bid for the Justice of the Peace (JP) Precinct 2 building project in Matagorda and preliminary approval for JP 2 case management software, at the court’s regular meeting Monday, Oct. 6.

"Main Street increases façade grants to $10K" by: Jessica Shepard

   Bay City Main Street board members unanimously approved increasing the façade grant program award amount up to $10,000 during their meeting last week.  Matthew Morales, Kaci Waller, and Alice Lowery were the only members absent from the Oct. 1 meeting.

"Commissioners hold workshop for HOT Tax" by: Jessica Shepard

   County Judge Bobby Seiferman told commissioners that more local Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT tax) “research” was needed before moving forward at a commissioner’s court workshop last week.   Precinct 3 Commissioner Troy Shimek was the only one absent for the Monday, Sept. 29 workshop.

   City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) board members unanimously approved purchasing a new pool heater for the 16th Street Pool during their special-called meeting last week.   Jim Frankson was the only member absent on Friday, Sept. 26.

"County awards Blessing water plant contract" by: Mike Reddell

   Commissioners Court awarded a $770,795 General Land Office construction contract for the Blessing water plant project at the court’s regular meeting Monday, Sept. 29.  The low bid was awarded to Edna-based Mercer Construction Company, as recommended by Lynn Engineering.

   For fiscal 2026, City Council approved the city budget, property tax rate, and Bay City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) budget, and adopted the 2026 capital improvement program at council’s meeting Sept. 23.
