"Matagorda County Youth Leadership celebrates graduates" by: Jessica Shepard

   Over 20 students in four countywide school districts were recognized as “2025 Youth Leadership Matagorda County” graduates last week.  The students received awards and graduation cords during the May 7 banquet.

Caney Creek Cut Maintenance Dredging

Matagorda County Drainage District No. 1 will begin dredging the entrance to Caney Creek Cut in June 2025 to remove shoaling near the mouth of Caney Creek Cut. Surveys indicate that shoaling has accumulated at the mouth of Caney Creek that could impact navigation during lower tides.

   Matagorda County Emergency Operation Center and Matagorda Local Emergency Planning Committee are hosting an “Inaugural Hurricane Symposium” this Saturday, May 10.  “This event focuses on storm-related threats that impact our coast and Matagorda County,” said County Judge Bobby Seiferman.

"Matagorda VFD dedicates new fire, rescue boat" by: Mike Reddell

   Matagorda Volunteer Fire Department christened its new fire and rescue boat “Matagorda Guardian of the Sea” amid ceremonies at Matagorda Harbor Pavilion Saturday, May 3.    Matagorda Fire Chief Gail Cook was the main speaker for the event that drew about 50 people.

"CAST ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ will close out this weekend" by: Jessica Shepard

   Tickets are going fast for Community Actors of South Texas’ rendition of “Driving Miss Daisy.”  Each performance starts at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, May 8-10, at the CAST theater.  General admission tickets are $20 per person, and student tickets are $7 with a valid student ID.
