   The 2024 General Election went smoothly County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz told Commissioners Court before it canvassed the vote at the court’s regular meeting Monday morning, Nov. 18.  There was a 60% voter turnout in Matagorda County and a record of about 8,000 early votes, Wurtz said.

   City Council announced its decision to appoint interim city manager Scotty Jones as City Manager following an executive session that followed the Nov. 12 regular meeting.

   Registration for the annual “Matagorda County Holiday Food Drive” opens this Thursday, Nov. 21.  Citizens can sign up from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Ave. H and 4th St. in Bay City.  There is a 1-box limit per household and ID is required for registration.

   City Council members were given an overview of TIRZ 5 boundaries and possible new areas and gave staff input on development areas at council’s regular meeting Tuesday, Nov. 12.  TIRZ 5 covers a broad swath of Bay City with numerous non-contiguous areas.

Correcting line of information claiming Sargent Beach closed

   We need your help in correcting a line of misinformation.  It seems the US Corps of Engineers released a press release that didn’t fully cover the situation along the Gulf Coast.  The press release dated Nov 5, 2024, claimed Sargent beach was closed.
