2 killed in Van Vleck car crash

   Two females, aged 19 and 17, were killed when the BMW they were passengers in crashed and caught fire after colliding with a Cadillac on Texas 35 in Van Vleck at 12:35 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, according to DPS Sgt. Stephen Woodard.

   Tidehaven ISD trustees unanimously approved the 2024-25 fiscal year $13.9 million budget and tax rate during a special-called meeting on Monday, Aug. 26.  All board members were present except for Stephen Crow.  The district’s total tax rate includes about $0.

   Wharton County Junior College’s trades and carpentry $2 million expansion project is nearing completion.  WCJC Facilities Management Advisor Mike Feyen is expecting construction of the project to be “done by the end of August.

   City Council approved a three-item change order for the wastewater treatment plant improvements at a workshop Aug. 27.  The three change order items for include equipment materials, labor and equipment to be added to the LEM construction contract for the wastewater treatment plant.
