Last week was no fun for the tech sector.
It appears that fear is taking over optimism.
I would think it is more about the upcoming election is just over two weeks.
I make it a principle to never discuss religion or politics with others.
I am a big believer in faith no matter what avenue you pursue.
I am not a big fan of organized religion.
I exercise my right to vote as my avenue for political commentary.
I find the whole political system to be flawed as we elect people who take money for a living.
None of these two positions would make me popular but I never really worried about such.
I do absolutely feel it’s imperative that you need to vote.
It is beyond a right - to me it’s your duty, to yourself and others.
It is sort of like being honest and trustworthy.
Not saying you should be a Boy Scout, but you should embody ethics at every turn. Not an easy task and it takes great discipline.
Discipline is what you also need to invest your retirement savings.
If you have no real plan then you are just gambling.
I love how the prediction markets tout their platforms as trading.
No it is just gambling under a different label.
If you don’t have a plan I am going to remind you to just follow Buffet and find an ETF of the S&P 500 and let it roll.
I would say that doing it at record levels for the various indexes and averages seems to be stacking the odds against you.
I would say that you probably have a window through the end of the year to benefit, but next year might prove difficult.
I am building cash for the next real pullback.
That, of course, takes patience and gamblers lack that trait.
I listened to Paul Tudor Jones last week being interviewed on CNBC.
He was touting energy as he sees oil prices continuing to climb.
Without a resolution in the Middle East, he is right on point.
Some have argued that the dollar is in trouble due to our growing Federal debt.
What I see is actual strength as many European countries are in much worse shape than us due to the explosion of debt to finance those countries entitlement programs.
The fear of AI seems more of a unrealistic ghost.
It is going to bring change, but that is what makes for progress.
Part of the problem in Europe is the lack of change.
It sounds endearing but it doesn’t work economically.
Speaking of economics, we shall see if it is the reason this election cycle.
I cannot ignore the price of energy causing inflation.
I do however watch as company after company announce better than expected earnings. Consumers have yet to quit spending. GDP continues to come in higher than projected.
All is not rosy, but it is far from what some would lead you to believe.
I will watch with interest to see how the voters express themselves in November. The projections look as if we are going to get a change but polls have been pathetic prognosticators of late.
As such, I am simply going to be a spectator.
I am not for prediction markets as I have seen what gambling does to people’s lives.
I know there are other addictions that get most of the attention, but gambling is devastating.
I used to work for a bookie in college collecting and it taught all I needed to know.
I will stick with investing, at least I actually own something that is tangible. Gambling is enticing but you only have to look at the numbers to realize the few that actually find it works.
I dare say though that should you keep the amount minimal it does enhance the time spent.
I hardly play a round of golf without something on the line.
It is however just beer and bragging rights accounting. I call that entertainment.
About as far from investing as you can get.
On a much lighter note, we got a real taste of fall weather.
It doesn’t hardly get any better than a crisp sunny fall day.
Not too cold, not too hot, just right.
Enjoy it when it’s there, as you just don’t know what is coming.
Sort of like getting everything you can out of each and every day being on the bright side of life.
All the worry stuff is still there it makes it easier to withstand.
