   Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation board members agreed to join the Lone Star Coastal National Recreational Area Act at the board’s meeting Friday, Aug. 14.  “We’ve been asked to sign on a 146-mile corridor along the coast,” MCEDC Executive Director Mike Ferdinand told the board.

   Bay City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) board members unanimously approved allowing BCCDC Executive Director Melanie Townsend to sign aquatic center project grant and donation agreements as needed during their meeting last week.

   The Maritime Administration (MARAD) had its final public hearing for the ST LNG Deepwater Port with three local officials giving positive comments at the Bay City Civic Center Wednesday, Aug. 12.  The proposed project calls for a deepwater port about 10.4 nautical miles offshore of Matagorda.

   The Port of Bay City Authority will partner with Matagorda Bay Foundation to reduce the turbidity in Matagorda Harbor the authority’s board decided last week.

   Bay City ISD school board members unanimously approved calling for an $8 million bond and Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) at last week’s “Special Board” meeting.     All trustees were present for the meeting.  The Nov.

   After a brief workshop, Tidehaven ISD trustees unanimously approved setting an Aug. 31 public hearing for the proposed 2026-2027 tax rate during their meeting last week.

   Mayor Robert Nelson criticized drivers who are ignoring traffic barricades at City Council’s special called meeting Aug. 11.   “Public Works employees are seeing a lot of people driving around barricades. That must stop!” the Mayor said.

   City Council signed off on $13.586 million in spending for the North Water Treatment Plant estimated total at a council workshop Aug. 11.  That total includes construction costs of $13.069 million and construction services totaling $517,000.
