The Bay City Police Department (BCPD), Chief Christella Rodriguez, and City Officials invite the media and public to the official groundbreaking ceremony of the new Bay City Public Safety Center at 3701 Avenue F at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026.
The present BCPD, at 2201 Avenue H, has outgrown its available space and operational needs due to lack of space.
The current building is roughly 10,000 square feet.
Due to technology, changing laws, and the department’s growth, the need for a new facility became apparent.
The last three years, BCPD, along with City Officials, acquired the former Kmart building at 3701 Avenue F and are planning its renovation as the new Public Safety Building.
This building will be almost 40,000 square feet of much-needed space.
Along with BCPD, the Bay City Municipal Court will also be making the move to our new location.
There will be about 3,000 to 5,000 square feet of shell space for future growth.
Not only will the new building have more office space, but it will also have state-of-the-art Dispatching Center, evidence processing and storage, a better records management system, a gym with lockers and showers, and a parking lot with lots of space.
Rodriguez told staff in an email, “The new Public Safety Building represents the next chapter of the Bay City Police Department and will provide a facility that better supports our employees, our operations, and the community we serve.
“More importantly, it represents the City’s commitment to the future of public safety in Bay City and to the men and women who carry out that mission every day.”
