Resolution 8: Make your home work for you

As summer winds down, and our routines begin to settle back into place, September is a wonderful time to take a fresh look at your home.
The busy days of summer may have left a few things overlooked, and before we head into the holidays and cooler months, this is the perfect time to give your home a little attention.
Our homes should support the way we live, but sometimes we continue to use a space simply because “that’s the way it has always been.”
Start by walking through your home with fresh eyes.
Is your entryway a welcoming place to come home to, or has it become a dumping ground for shoes, bags and mail?
Does your kitchen have everything you use most often within easy reach?
Is there a room that has gradually become a storage area instead of serving the purpose it was intended for?
Sometimes a small adjustment in the way a room is organized can make a tremendous difference in how you experience your home every day.
September can also be a good time to look at the maintenance needs of your home before the seasons change.
Take a walk around the house and notice anything that needs attention.
Look for a dripping faucet, a loose railing, peeling paint, a window that doesn’t seal properly or a ceiling stain you’ve been meaning to investigate.
Small problems are much easier and usually less expensive to address before they become major ones.
Take a little time to notice what works, what doesn’t and what small changes could make your everyday life more comfortable.
Sometimes the best home improvement doesn’t come from adding something new.
It comes from making better use of what you already have.
