    The Wharton County Junior College Foundation announced the additions of Terry Hlavinka, Melissa Toon, and Scott Savage to its Board of Directors.    Each brings extensive professional experience and a strong commitment to supporting higher education and workforce development in the region.

   Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association’s Fair and Rodeo activities ramp up this Friday.  Commercial Heifer check-in will be 2-4:30 p.m. at the outdoor arena with commercial interviews to follow at 5 p.m.  Kenny’s Funland carnival opens from 5-10 p.m. Friday night.  Saturday, Feb.

   Phillips 66 Sweeny Refinery recently honored eight area high school educators teaching in the science or math fields with the 2025 Science/Math Teacher Recognition Award.

   Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association’s (MCFLA) 2026 Fair and Rodeo royalty winners were chosen last weekend.  Scollie Saha was crowned the 2026 MCFLA Rodeo Queen Saturday, Feb. 21.
