"Port OKs renovation increase for asbestos abatement" by: Jessica Shepard

   Port of Bay City Authority commissioners unanimously approved an increase in funds for the port office renovation project during their meeting last week.     Asbestos was discovered in some drywall and under tile in the building and has to be remediated to continue with the rest of the project.

   This year New Year’s Eve falls on Sunday, Dec. 31, and New Year’s Day is Monday, Jan. 1.     That means that many local businesses are closed in observance of the holiday starting Friday, Dec. 29, and will re-open at regular business hours Tuesday, Jan. 2.

   Main Street Program Director Tina Israel informed her board that she was considering purchasing banners for downtown light poles during the group’s regular meeting.     “This will probably be our next downtown project goal for the coming year,” explained Israel.
