"Council want mental health transport costs" by: Jessica Shepard

City Councilmen Brad Westmoreland and Blayne Finlay asked Bay City PD Police Chief Christella Rodriguez to find the costs associated with increased mental health transport numbers during her presentation last week.  All council members were present at the Feb. 13 meeting.

“This man no longer deserves the right to breathe the same free air as you, your families, or the other citizens of Matagorda County,” District Attorney Steven Reis told the jury.   “You should keep him out of this community for the rest of his life,” the prosecutor concluded before taking his seat.

Presidents Day closings

Observance of President’s Day falls on Monday, Feb. 19 this year.  Van Vleck and Bay City ISD campuses will be closed to students Monday.  Students of both districts will return to regular hours on Tuesday, Feb. 20.  Tidehaven ISD students will have class at regular hours Monday.

Texas 35 closing dates confirmed

The dates for the permanent railway replacement on Texas 35 near McDonald’s have been confirmed.  The replacement will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, and is scheduled to end by 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19.

"TIRZ board sends downtown parks concepts to City Council" by: Jessica Shepard

Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) 1 and 2 board members reviewed conceptual designs for “Cottonwood Park” and “Barkway Park” during their regular meeting last week.  Both parks would be located just north of downtown on city-owned property and provide a variety of amenities.
