Area departments’ fire calls for late August

   Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:      On Aug. 22, at 5:12 p.m., Bay City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a wash down at 7th Street and FM 457.      On Aug. 22, at 5:36 p.m., Bay City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire on Hwy 60 South.      On Aug. 24, at 5:42 a.m.

Unattended cooking blamed for house fire

   Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, the Bay City Fire Marshal, and the Bay City Police Department were dispatched to a building fire at 1816 Bayou Dr, Bay City at about 5:26 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.      A local resident notified dispatch his house was on fire.

   Cotton farmers Paul Sliva and Carey Orsak were busy last week picking cotton on acreage north of Bay City.    “We’re not doing as well as last year,” Sliva said in an interview at the acreage that Orsak owns off Chalmers Road but picked by both farmers.
