Structural fire caused by electrical short

   An electrical outlet short caused a fire at Auto Max Collision, 921 Ave F North Friday, Aug. 19, Fire Marshal Dan Shook reported.    Bay City Volunteer Fire Department responded to the structure fire at 2:25 p.m.

   Commissioners Court adopted the 2023 county budget and 2022 tax rate and approved the online auction of tax foreclosed property at the court’s regular meeting Monday, Aug. 29.    The 2023 budget totals $29,609,325 and increased $1,400,806 over the previous budget.

   Bay City ISD trustees unanimously set the public hearing date for the proposed budget and tax rate during their regular meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 23.    All trustees were present for the meeting.    The public meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the BCISD Administration Building.

   Tourism council welcomed newly hired Tourism Director Darve Smith at its regular meeting, Aug. 29.    Smith moved into his office Friday, Aug. 26.    “I’m looking forward to getting to know this board and excited to promote tourism here in Bay City and Matagorda County,” he said.

Labor Day Closings

   Labor Day celebrations and closures fall on Monday, Sept. 5 this year.    Bay City, Van Vleck, and Tidehaven ISDs will all be closed in observance of the holiday.    All BCISD, VVISD, and TISD campuses will resume regularly scheduled classes on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
