   City council unanimously approved calling a special meeting for possibly creating a second Public Improvement District (PID) for Jim Maddox’s Meadow Lake subdivision last week.

   The Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association’s 81st Annual Matagorda County Fair kicks into gear this weekend.  General admission tickets are $10 per person or $25 for reserved seats.  Children ages five and under get in free.  Ticket Office hours are from noon-5:30 p.m.

"2025 MCFLA Home Ec food show winners" by: Jessica Shepard

   The Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association’s Home Economics Food Show auction raised about $16,700 for local students, Saturday, March 1.  That number is a decrease of roughly $1,200 from last year’s $17,900.  The item that earned the highest bid was a pecan pie.

Tenaris awards $40K in scholarships at Heifer Show

For the second year in a row, Tenaris is partnering with the Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association to award the TenarisBayCity Scholarship for Agricultural Sustainability, for a total of $40,000 in awards on March 1.

   Van Vleck ISD trustees unanimously approved over $6,000 in donation checks at their February meeting.  Board members Donnie O’Connell and Casey Kile were absent.  The largest donation - $3,750 – came from Drymalla Construction for the district’s new baseball/softball scoreboards.

The event featured free coffee, cookies, donuts, and other sweets along with attendees getting the chance to work behind the counter at the restaurant.

Tiger Relays renamed to Mike Pierce Tiger Relays

   Tidehaven’s Tiger Relays will now be named Mike Pierce Tiger Relays for Pierce’s lengthy involvement in Tidehaven athletics.  Athletic Director David Lucio made the announcement to rename the event - starting in 2026 - during the relays last week.
