Several dogs die in Van Vleck trailer house fire

   The Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department and the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office responded to a trailer home on fire at 497 Camino Del Arroyo in Van Vleck, at  about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Warrant alleges sexual abuse of a child continuous

   Bay City police arrested a Bay City man for sex abuse of a child after officers and detectives executed an arrest and search warrant at a Cottonwood residence Wednesday, Jan. 15, reports show.

Steak thief leads police on car chase

   A man accused of stealing eight packages of rib eye steaks from Walmart was pursued by Bay City police in a car chase all the way to Palacios Monday, Jan. 13.  The thief’s car ended up running out of gas on FM 521 and was taken into custody.

Library celebrates ‘Family Place’

   Bay City Public Library celebrated its "Family Place" library designation Wednesday, Jan. 15.   In 2018, the library received a grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for the Family Place Libraries program.
