   Van Vleck ISD’s new police chief Stephen Jimenez took his oath of office at the district’s regular school board meeting Monday night.  Jimenez has over 19 years of law enforcement experience including the Wharton Police Department, Wharton County Sheriff Office, and El Campo Police Department.

   The Port of Bay City Authority is looking at roughly $330,000 in possible Texas Parks and Wildlife Boating Access grant funds for the Matagorda Harbor Boat Ramp Project.  “There’s currently no cost for planning and engineering of the project,” said Anchor QEA’s Hayden Smith at the Jan. 9 meeting.

   Filing for the May 3 city election – for the mayor and three city council places – begins Jan. 15 and continues through Feb. 14.  Robert Nelson is the incumbent mayor.  The three council seats up for election are:  Position 3, held by Bradley Westmoreland.  Position 4, held by Becca Sitz.

   Bay City police responded to the second auto theft incident within a two-week period when officer Luis Moreno, was sent to 2300 7th Street in reference to a stolen vehicle at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8.
