"Prosperity Bank donates $50K to aquatic center" by: Jessica Shepard

   Bay City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) board member Bruce Krauspkof announced a $50,000 Prosperity Bank donation toward the aquatic center during the board’s special called meeting last week.   Members Clint Hewitt and Ben Flores were the only ones absent Friday, June 5.

"Place 1 runoff Saturday" by: Mike Reddell

   Saturday, June 13, is election day in the runoff between Cory McCray and Stacy L. Rowh for the Place 1 seat on City Council.   A total of 179 in-person early votes were cast – and about 50 ballot by mail - by about 5 p.m. Monday, June 8, said County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz.

Animals rescued during house fire

   The Bay City Fire Department, Bay City Police Department, Bay City Animal Control, and the Bay City Fire Marshal responded to a house fire at 3005 Rugeley at about 11:17 am. Monday, June 8.  A resident called 9-1-1 after being awoken by her dog barking and smelling smoke in the residence.

Amber Simons graduates from Harvard Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa

   Amber Michelle Simons – the daughter of Bay City Physician Dr. Dane Simons – graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University with a degree in Psychology last week.  She received the highest academic honor an undergraduate at Harvard can receive, being elected into the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

 Van Vleck High School student and band member Erik Adamian was recognized as an Outstanding Performer at the 2026 UIL Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest (TSSEC), one of the highest individual honors awarded to Texas student musicians.

Versatile Shook returns home to be police chief

   Bay City Fire Marshal Dan Shook is headed back to his home state of Ohio where he will become the Police Chief of Perry Village, Ohio.   The Northeastern town of 1,600 is near where Shook grew up in Painesville, and Perry Village also is close to a nuclear plant.
